Vampires have "come out of the coffin" and there were mixed reactions. Some people took to them with great enthusiasm and became followers. Others didn't take to them at all and they ended up hating them. Louisiana has the highest population of vampires, and that is where the plot takes place.
Sookie Stackhouse is a telepath and works at Merlottes. Her boss, Sam Merlotte, is a shape shifter but he keeps it a secret. Tara Thorton just got hired into Merlottes as a bar maid and there is plenty of drama.
A vampire, Bill, has just moved into the area and takes a liking to Sookie. Eric Northman, Sherrif of Area 5 has become intrigued with the telepath. The Queen, Sophie-Anne Leclerq has also taken an interest in Sookie.
There is Jason Stackhouse and all of the others as well. There is plenty of drama to unfold and plenty of lives to be played out.
