It varies from day to day and isn't any particular style. She could dress up looking ready for a fancy dinner party one day, then be wearing sweats and a hoody another. However, the one constant is that she tends to walk around barefoot.Appearance:
She's not big. She's not intimidating. She's hardly even noticeable. The only thing that stands out about her is the overall paleness of her appearance. Her skin and hair are both a pasty white, and sometimes you can see brilliant white feathers in her hair, a testament to her spirit animal.History:
She has what would be called a normal build, not too muscular but not all fat, either. She gets enough exercise and with her diet of manly vegetables and the occasional fish meal, she doesn't eat a lot of fatty foods--besides the occasional ice cream.
Luella was born to a happy and successful family in Michigan. She had three older other sisters besides herself (which always drove her father crazy, as he had always wanted at least ONE boy) and all of them had a special friend--some type of water fowl. Why they were convicted:
It was directly after birth that the family knew what her spirit animal was. She was born with the palest of skin and a full head of hair (which her mother always blamed her heart burns on) that was white as snow. Their only guess was that she would be paired with a swan.
Their family always made a habit of going out to find their daughter's soul animals. It was like going out and picking out a puppy for the little girls: they got to go outside and chase around the ducks and geese, feed them bread, and maybe find the one they were destined to be with.
They took Luella out on her fifth birthday to a few different lakes and ponds scattered in their general area, looking for the swan that would connect to their youngest daughter. However, she was never as interested in chasing the birds like her sisters were. She just sat next to the water and tossed little pieces of bread in, watching with only a small smile as the ducks and geese pecked at the morsels.
Finally, after several different tries and even an out-of-city visit later, Luella met with her soul swan--a beautiful trumpeter swan. A flock of them had been released earlier that year to populate a new sanctuary, and the family thought it the perfect place to try. It was important to them that they met with their animals early in life, in case something terrible happened due to a hunting incident or one involving a car and a lost goose.
Luella had been sitting with her bare feet in the water as usual, watching the ducks nibble at the bread she was tossing out. Her sisters were off screaming, their own spirit animals toddling after them like puppies. A brutish swan swam over, intrigued by all of the excited and well-fed ducks. He chased them all off so he could have all the bread for himself, and it made Luella giggle.
When she ran out of bread, she got up and went to get more from her father, and the swan followed. Her father told her she had a shadow, and she just shrugged and said "Yes, that's Boris. He wants to come home with me."
The incident of her incarceration was all just one big mishap; a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.Years in the Camp: New Inmate/Guard
Luella was accused of a crime that she didn't commit because the owner of a shop she visited was bias against her species. Though she was innocent, she didn't have much of a chance to defend herself. Not that she would have been able to very well, anyway.
Everyone but her family was convinced she was guilty of harassing the elderly shop owner (though in reality she had just been overly curious and asking a lot of questions) and it didn't take long before she was shipped off to Camp Sangvene. Everyone was against her, but her family couldn't do anything about it without all of their daughters getting shipped off to the camp as well.
So, she was forced to do the time.
Life in the Camp:
She has yet to establish any real friendships and tends to just hang out on her own with Boris, usually in a corner somewhere.Personality:
At first glance, Luella can come off as cold and aloof, ignoring everyone around her and refusing to talk to them. In most cases, though, she just sincerely didn't realize you were talking to her. She's often lost in her own thoughts and daydreams, unaware of what's going on around her.Likes:
Having a conversation with Luella can be difficult and entertaining at the same time. Her speech patterns can be a little unusual, as are the topics she switches to. She thinks of things in strange ways, and often perceives things in radical views that can come off as just plain weird. Her actions tend to reflect this as well: dancing when there's no music, touching things that aren't actually there.
Most of this comes down to her unaddressed and undiagnosed Schizotypal Personality Disorder. She lacks any real friends besides Boris and her immediate family, and never really develops any attachment to people no matter how much time she spends with them. She doesn't tend to trust people easily and doesn't seek out relationships with people.
Luella can sometimes have minor anxiety attacks, usually brought on when she becomes frightened or thinks that she is in danger in any way. Being in large crowds can set her off, and when she's set off, she becomes a danger to herself and those in the immediate area (usually within arm's reach).
During those times, you might have a hissing and angry swan to deal with as well.
