Shadow, obviously, prefers blacks. They actually tend to increase her powers. Anything black will do, though Jeans are also commonly found on her. Strangely enough she likes dresses but will usually save them for the nicest days. Shadow has been known to wear jewellery as well. Silver mostly, she dislikes gold colours and finds them rather tacky.Appearance:
Shadow is, in first appearances, a normal girl. There is nothing overly glamorous or pretty about her. She has long black hair and pretty green eyes. She's no beauty queen, but she has been known to catch the eye of boys before. She's not overly strong, but she's not a weak little girl either. She can pack quite a punch, and happens to be rather gifted in the art of slapping at appropriate times.History:
HER PARENTSWhy they were convicted:
Born in a very small down located in the middle of nowhere on the British countryside. Her family was beautiful, and very wealthy. Her mother was a smart doctor, whom ran the local medical clinic in town. Her father was a kind man whom owned much of the town's property. They were well liked in the town, with billions of dollars in their family estate.
Her mother, Mary Wilson, was the only heir to the Wilson estate, which owned almost all of the land around Dark Valley. When she married an american she had mat and fallen for while attending Cambridge, George Perkins. They did their best to keep their engagement a secret from her father, whom was a very traditional man whom always wanted a fellow wealthy, British man to marry. But, as always he found out quickly as if they had simply announced it right off the bat. Her father had that habit of knowing everything about everyone, and as they thought, he was less than happy at their marriage, but died of a heart attack before the marriage. Her mother, whom was a tired woman whom loved her children more than life itself, gave Mary everything on their wedding day and retired in a small cottage and stable in town with enough money to live contently until she too would pass on.
HER EARLY LIFE
Mary and George lived in the family's mansion, a castle-like home built hundred of years ago. Samantha was their first born, a beautiful girl with the black hair of the Wilson family. She was practically coddled her entire infant life, but she never quite grew up like a normal child. She found herself drawn to the night, especially in the forests outside the extensive gardens of her house.
She took to horseback riding with her elderly grandmother, Rosalind. Rosalind was an amazing person and Samantha bonded with her beyond either of her parents. Rosalind was thrilled, and catered to her every need. She was a very kind woman whom was known for her love for animals. She was known to take in unwanted kittens, puppies and wild animals unable to care for themselves anymore. She also had two horses. Goldmane, a beautiful pale yellow horse whom was very attached to her. And Nightengale, a sleek black horse. There was nothing Samantha enjoyed more than a long ride through the forests of the valley and the thick forests around it.
During this time, her parents had a second child, Annie. Annie was a Perkins through and through, with short blonde hair and dazzling blue eyes. She loved the garden and the small lake not far from the garden. She was smart and beautiful and adored the ground Samantha walked on. Bubbly and happy-go-lucky, she was a beautiful child.
TRAGEDY STRIKES
When Samantha was nine and Annie was six, their grandmother, whom Samantha called Grandma Ross, was in a car accident. On her deathbed, she told Samantha something she'd never told anyone. Rosalind was not human, in fact, she came from a family of strictly elementals. She was an Animal Elemental, and it was almost certain that Samantha would have elemental powers too-though she wasn't sure which ones yet as
Samantha was devastated, and in her will, she left everything to Samantha. Because her role model and best friend was gone, Samantha took to her younger sister. She taught her to ride Goldmane, and slowly the two sisters began to develop a strong bond. Samantha took a protective role over her younger sister, but... there was something strange about her. Whenever Samantha was close to her, she felt weak, tired. Sometimes she thought that even Annie felt the same. So they took to riding together, so they didn't need to be in close contact, but still felt close.
When Samantha had just turned ten, that was when she first began to experience her powers. After doing some quick research of elementals online, she discovered that she should have found her powers much sooner than ten, but eventually figured out she'd taken the Shadow element. With practice, she discovered how to dissolve herself into the darkness in night, and even discovered she could manipulate the shadows around her to create illusions. It was slow, and difficult, but she learned.
Annie, on the other hand, was obviously a Light Elemental. She did seem to have this glowing look about her, and more than once she had seen Annie basking in the sun, radiating a beautiful white light. But the older the two elementals got, the more and more apparent it became that they were hurting each other with the other's presence. So slowly, they drifted back apart.
THE END OF SAMANTHA
Meanwhile, the Perkins family was getting more and more famous for their goodness and wealth. Rumours spread about their comfort and amount of money they had and it aroused the attention of the closest thieves. It became a common occurrence of an attempted break in at their relatively unguarded mansion aside from their alarm. Samantha actually took to scoping out for them and fooling them with her shadows, as well as spying on them. Once she even pretended she was a ghost. She found it great fun.
One group of thieves though, they had an entirely different plan. Instead of trying to get into the safe, they went for the bedrooms. Specifically, little Annie's bedroom. Being only eight at the time, she was helpless. Samantha, age twelve, had been roaming the halls at the time and had caught them in the bedroom trying to smuggle the girl out of kidnapping and ransom. She screamed for her parents, but they were no match for the three strangers. After brawling for a while, eventually both loving parents ended up dead on the ground from bullet wounds. At the time Samantha had been trying to get Annie out of the room, but the distraught girl wanted to fight for her parents. Eventually, their conflicting powers collided, knocking both girls out and letting the attempted kidnappers, and now murderers get away.
When she awoke, she found poor Annie, bruised and still knocked out cold on the floor. Though they hadn't been as close as they had before, Samantha felt a burning loyalty to the little girl and she knew then that if she stayed, it would only hurt her further. She fled from the crime scene with her horse, vowing revenge on her parent's death. Knowing people would come looking for her, she took the name Shadow after the element she had taken, and still calls herself by that name to this day.
THE BIRTH OF SHADOW
Young, scared and on the fast track for revenge, Shadow found life extremely difficult on the run. She did have the sense to grab her parent's credit cards, though she did not know how to use it, so they were useless. It was probably for the best considering it would have been an easy way to track her. She travelled from town to town, sleeping through the day and travelling around at night (which was safest as she could vanish any time she wanted) but she had much difficulty finding food. That was when she discovered her second half of powers.
At first she thought she was finally loosing it. She had been staying in London when she first started hearing faint voices in the back of her head, chattering on about things that had no meaning to the little girl. Even at night, the voices would pound in her brain like a lightening storm. It was unbearable.
So she took her horse, and rode as far away as she could until she came across a farm. She was tired, and starving, and utterly exhausted. It was run by a small family, a humble couple and a young man age about fifteen. Shadow had just turned thirteen at the time and was terrified. The family took the girl in, and answered her requests to not call the police. She never told them she was a supernatural, but instead became more like one of the family. She helped out with the yard work, the harvest, the care for the animals, even the cooking. The family took her in as if she were her own child. They taught her something that her own family never could have, how to live without money. The family was very poor, barely making ends meet, but they could eat their own harvest and they were a very happy family. She really fit into the family, in a way she had never felt with her own. William, the father, taught her how to do hard work. Abigal, the mother, taught her how to bake with almost nothing to cook with, and Tommy? Tommy became the closest friend she'd ever had and he thought of her as a sister. He taught her how to fish, to climb trees and track wild animals in the forests by their farm. It had never been an ideal situation for Shadow, but after a while she almost felt like she belonged-though she never forgot what she was. By day she was a humble farmgirl, by night she practised her abilities by trying to listen in on dreams and walk among the shadows. After a few months, she even began to hunt at night. Nothing large, but she caught rabbets and foxes and other small mammals. It was this time she had learned how to set up traps and snares, and this talent has really come in handy at Sangvene.
Though she had begun to love her new family, she never forgot about her plan for revenge, and on her fifteenth birthday, she knew she had to leave. She wrote a long note to her adopted family, and left on her horse. She had saved up her allowance the entire time and now had money to do what she needed to do. By this time she had begun to learn to control her powers, blocking out unwanted thoughts from entering her brain and even had learned to focus her telepathic powers on certain targets, making mind-reading much easier.
BACK TO DARK VALLEY
With no hint at all where the murderers of her parents were located, she knew she had to go back home to Dark Valley and ask Annie. She didn't want to, but she knew there was no other option. She arrived in town, and had listened into the local gossip by sneaking around in the shadows. She had learned that their mother's sister, aunt Harriet and her husband, Spencer, had adopted the poor little girl. She also learned that Annie had never been the same, she became sickly, no longer a blooming, radiant little girl, but a sickly young lady, unable to leave her room except for short walks in the gardens. Her heart ached for her little sister, and that night she slipped through the cracks of the front door and walked right into her bedroom.
Shadow could not prepare herself for the wave of nostalgia that hit her as she entered the room that had been the scene for her parent's death. Everything was the same (except for the massive bloodstains and the lifeless bodies of Mary and George Perkins). Except for Annie, Shadow barely recognized the broken ten year old. Her golden hair had faded, becoming a light, nearly colourless blonde that lacked the glowing touch of a light elemental. Her eyes, once a beautiful, glowing ocean blue that sparkled radiantly, was now grey, like thunderstorms. Her skin was pale, and dark circles had formed under her eyes as she slept.
It broke Shadow's heart to see her little sister like this, and she sobbed at the foot of Annie's bed for twenty minutes before Annie woke. Though the sight of her broken body hurt Shadow like nothing she had ever experienced, it was the next set of events that really hurt her. As the dark grey eyes touched Shadow's, they were filled with a deep confusion, then terror. "Wh-who are you?" she stammered before screaming for 'Auntie Harri and Uncle Spenci'. That was what really killed Shadow. She had no idea who she was, and it was all Shadow's fault-she knew it. She had the telepathic gifts to read memories... why not take them? She hadn't known about her powers then, but perhaps the weakness little Annie had over her Shadow elemental powers combined with the flash of her emotion, she must of drained Annie's memories. Now ripe with amnesia, she knew that her absence had done her no good.
But Shadow had no time to contemplate the new tragedy in her life, because after only a few moments, a team of HEROS agents blast into the room. Apparently she hadn't been careful enough while in town and someone had spotted her heading up to the mansion. They had watched her disappear into the Shadows and called for the team to save the poor, sick little girl located in the mansion. Now, with nowhere to run with high beams set straight at her, Shadow was arrested for trespassing and sent to Sangvene.
Was caught trespassing on her old home in Dark Valley.Years in the Camp: 2 years
Life in the Camp:
After nearly two years of Sangvene, Shadow is very tired. She was one of the first to join the rebellion-her only goal in life to kill people whom were in the outside. She never really spent much time with anyone, keeping her nose down and just hoping she can take a ride out of the camp at the first chance she gets. She has made a few friends, but doesn't really socialise if she can help it.Personality:
She can often be found in the forest, though she has had a few run-ins with werewolves, she's gotten out of those situations quickly.
She also tends to be out mostly at dawn and dusk, if not that then during the night. Direct sunlight makes her feel sick and vulnerable.
If you stuck Shadow in a room with five other people, it's very unlikely you'd pick her out of the five for anything strange and abnormal. She is a rather quiet person, preferring to sit alone with her thoughts than to chat with another. Always deep in though, Shadow is very analytical, and sees things how they are. She can look over a person and instantly guess many traits about them from the size of their ego to their state of sanity. She spends much of her time doing this, watching people and getting to understand her surroundings better.Likes:
Befriending Shadow is no easy matter. She's not often the trusting type, though displaying body language to show a friendly, but gentle manner can help you gain it. She's not one to take to high-pitched voices, hyperness or close contact with anyone but her closest friends (Though she does have a softer spot for young children and their innocence). Friends, to her, are the people she considers closest to her. It's a slow process but, it really is worth it. She's fiercely loyal to her friends, even more so to them than her own gang. Even if you are in a disagreement, Shadow's loyalty is hard to loose.
Despite her loyalty, Shadow has a very short-temper. She is easily angered, and when you anger her well... let's just say, she holds grudges. The more you tick her off, the higher up your misery goes on her to-do list. At first, she might not go completely out of her way, but the angrier she is at you, the more ways she figures out how to get you ten times worse.
Shadow does not typically hold loyalty to her gang tightly. Yes, she is a loyal person, but her gang she sees more as her setting. She is so used to moving around and travelling throughout that loyalty to her setting and the strangers closest to her has simply... dissolved. She is transparently loyal, not going against them unless she needs to.
