Long night. Very. Long. Night. She had spent the night recruiting these two werewolves. Brother and sister, we all know the type. The brother was dead set on trying to join the pack, though he didn't say it outright, he seemed to forget vampires had equally as good of hearing as him. The sister on the other hand-was much nicer. She was dead set on the Night Walkers. She was so sweet about her argument as well, how they could be so much more powerful here. In the end? Well, the brother gave in after Ava had a nice long (totally non-threatening) chat with him. Then he gladly agreed to join the gain, and they were currently out on their first patrol with Derike and two other more... faithful members.
Dressed in a very simple outfit, a red top with jeans and leather boots, she didn't look much different from any other day she had been outside of the abandoned schoolhouse. On her belt as usual was her silver dagger and her silver-firing pistol. Yep, protected with the best that the warden would offer her, surely Ava could never be afraid out here. She practically owned this stupid camp, no one could make her fearful.
So now, it was time for her nightly walk down the street, it was time to clear her head, it was time to de-stress. Unfortunately, that wasn't what fate had in store for Ava tonight. No, the fates had something a little more for her tonight. As Ava walked past an old office that stood alone on the side of the road, she caught a scent. A scent she hadn't smelled outside of her dreams for four long years. The scent. The one that she had searched for for months before her incarceration at Sangvene. The scent she had hoped to never smell again. The one she had slept beside for over two years of her life. It was the scent that haunted her nightmares daily. It was THE scent.
Her entire body froze, like a deer caught in the headlights. Her eyes widened, her hands fell to her sides and if she had a heart-it would have stopped beating. After holding her breath until she was gasping for air she turned, looking for somewhere, anywhere to hide. Though Ava wasn't typically a hiding person, tonight just might be an exception.

---------A cool breeze shifted through the moonlit branches of the road-side trees leading into the forest. It was always better when the air was moving. It tousled his sandy blonde hair and brought the scents of westward camp his way. A satisfied smile played onto his lips as familiarity met him. It was her. Finally it was her. There was no mistaking her scent. With hurried silent footsteps he approached his goal, navigating through the trees until he caught her in his line of sight. Beautiful. Her golden hair was lit by the moon and stars, her fair skin practically glowing. She was frozen there, panicking, smelling. Smelling him no doubt. Her eyes darted about before she turned for the trees, likely seeing them as a shelter. ---------Just as she passed, in a flash he grabbed hold of her arm and spun her around to where she was pressed up against a tree. She was trembling but he did not let go. "Well this is familiar," he said, a smirk across his features. Her scent was stronger now that she was so close. He had spent four years searching for her and was not particularly inclined to let her slip away again.

Ava tried to bolt for it. She tried to run away. Like so many of her dreams. Running away from the echos of the past trying to catch her. She remembered the feeling of them trying to grab her on any limb they could touch. But she almost always managed to get away. Not this time, though. She felt someone grab her arm and she knew it, she was done for.
Then he was there, in front of her, right THERE. This had to be a dream, a nightmare. It couldn't be anything else, could it? He wasn't here! He wasn't at Sangvene! He couldn't be! No, he was still in New York with that stupid bitch she had caught him with. This was just a dream, right? A very realistic dream-but it was a dream none-the-less. It had to be. There was no way-he wasn't here, HE WASN'T. But. He was.
Ava pulled herself away from him, her expression more as if she was seeing a ghost than seeing her ex-boyfriend. She pulled the arm that he had grabbed and rubbed the spot where he had grabbed it, as if wondering something that couldn't possibly be there could actually touch her. Her lip quivered a small amount before replying with narrowed eyes, hurt flashing in them "You let your hair dye wash out.". Her voice was dry and quiet.
Normally, Ava was the master at hiding her emotions. She had done it for four years in front of almost the same people she'd been around for four years-not to mention hiding the signs of abuse on her for her first fifteen years of life. But... with Jeremy. She'd never needed to, she had no idea it would be so difficult to hide these emotions. The hurt and pain and hate and disgust for him, it was like trying to hold down smoke with nothing but a butterfly net.

---------As she pulled her arm away, he let his grip loosen, not wishing his first impression after four years to be injuring her. Never the less, he was ready to stop her from running away if she tried to bolt. Looking down into her pale blue eyes he saw her fear, her hurt, and her disgust seeping through it all. Her words were weak. They tried, and failed, to hide the emotions she seemed to have bottled up inside. Jem did not lose face and tried to shove away any ideas of it being his fault. Guilt was not a feeling he was particularly fond of. ---------Less than a foot of distance stood between them. Jeremy reached forward with one hand to gently run a strand of her golden hair through his fingers, admiring. For a moment there was silence. He did not reply to her comment on his hair, but rather moved on to what he wanted to say. "I've been looking for you, Ava. Four years I've been looking for you." He turned his eyes back to hers again. "Were you here the whole time?"

Ava let him touch her hair, only for a little while. A wave of pure rage rushed through her like a tsunami and she pushed his hand away, taking a few steps backwards with anger in her eyes, her finger pointing at her accusingly. "You!... I... I'm...." she tried to get out exactly what she was feeling. She couldn't though. Most likely because simply, she didn't know how she felt. Not in detail, or at least-not enough to get a full sentence out. Finally she was able to say, "I'm not your pet!" she snapped.
He had asked if she'd been here the whole time, she rolled her eyes and crossed her arms across her chest. "Have I-?" her lips got stuck again and she gave a scoff, "Have I been here? I think the real question is what the hell you're doing here!" she snapped. What was he doing here? If he was even here. If all the horror and bloodshed hadn't finally driven her to complete and utter insanity.
She had to get away. She had to get away NOW. She needed to sort out her emotions before dealing with him. So, without giving it too much thought in case Jeremy caught on to her actions, she tried to bolt back towards the schoolhouse-running as fast as her four years of vampire power would let her.

---------Jeremy frowned slightly as she swatted away his hand and added more distance between them. She cautiousness was irritating and her snapping comment surprised him. Where was the kind, shy, sweet girl he knew four years ago? Something about her manner showed a change in her, a coldness, a hardness which was no there before. He did not know quite what to do with it, but was determined to not be the one to back off. ---------As he was about to reply to her demanding inquiry, she suddenly ran, no warning, she just ran. Foolish. She was fast, yes, and it was obvious that her four years since becoming a vampire were not spent idling around, but he was faster, more experienced. It did not take long before he caught up to her again. Grabbing both her arms, he slammed her up against a tree, being careful not to break her somewhat delicate body, and pinned her there to face him, not letting go this time. Leaning in he closed the distance between them to whisper in her ear, "No matter how strong you are, I am stronger. No matter how fast you run, I am faster. No matter where you hide, I will find you, Ava, because you are mine and mine alone." When Jeremy laid claim to something, he was not the kind of man to let go until he was ready to, and when it came to Ava Lynch, even eternity would not be enough.

Ava felt everything as she was grabbed and slammed into the tree. She felt herself have the strangest urge to simply burst out crying. Though, that was something she was much more talented at stifling, so she managed to cut it down to a slight whimper that dripped out of her lips like a snake slithering from it's hole. Quiet and stealthy, but still there nonetheless. She would NOT cry in front of him. Through her entire life, she had always managed to keep her tears to a minimum, and they were always far from prying eyes. Not to say she'd never cried in front of Jeremy, but at the time she hadn't cared he'd seen her. She hadn't cared about showing any weaknesses back then-well that wasn't her any longer.
She felt another burst of fury as he tried to lay claim on her, she didn't belong to anyone, she was her own and would always be her own. She struggled against him and gritted her teeth together, though she knew it was no use. The 1:10 ratio of their age really didn't put her in the front running against him. "Let. Me. Go! I am not yours!" she grunted with a snarl, pushing away from him as much as she could as she struggled against him. Ava had become, in all her modesty, a fighter. No longer did she bow down under the strength of the men in her life. No longer would she be content under the ruling of another and no longer would she sit there and let herself be taken by another-let alone the same man whom had had her for four years. No. This wasn't okay with Ava.
She knew Jeremy. She knew him pretty well. She knew that she had no chance at all going against him in combat as well as the fact he'd simply be able to catch her if she ran-but that wasn't going to stop her. That wasn't going to make her give in to him. In reply to his whisper in her ear she narrowed her gaze and replied back in the same, quiet yet determined voice he had. "No matter how strong you are, I will always fight. No matter how far you chase me, I can run a little further and no matter how many times you find me I will always get away."

---------Jeremy raised his eyebrows at her statement. He was, in all honesty, surprised at her determination. There was something in her voice, her attitude, her words, which did not exist four years ago. It was a fierceness and self-reliance, a lack of complacency with weaker than or over-ruled by anyone. Once again he found himself unsure on quite what to think of her new state of mind. ---------Leaning back to give her a few inches more of distance he looked down at her. "You've changed, Ava," he said. "I never took you as being the type for determination towards unreachable goals." His serious expression moved back into a smile, not the warm sweet smile but not cruel either, it was a mix of emotions which even he himself could not determine. "And I never said you were my, pet. No. A pet is nothing more than a mindless animal who follows her master without thought. Nothing more than a slave, really. Had you been like a pet I would never have taken the time to come find you here as such women who blindly follow without reason are dreadfully boring." He moved closer again and lowered his voice. "I hope you know you're not boring to me, Ava."

In that moment, in that very moment, Ava wished she was boring. She wished to the heavens that instead of being what anyone called interesting, she had been plainer, more common. She wished that she had died on the streets of New York those four years ago, she wished she hadn't ever been taken in by him, that she had never met him. But, then she didn't. She liked being a vampire. She liked the power it gave her. Jeremy, unfortunately, was just the price of immortality she supposed.
She had changed. Ava knew it, now Jeremy knew it. She narrowed her eyes "I guess four years may have changed me a tiny little bit." she said with dry sarcasm, another thing she had taken up since she had come to Sangvene. She looked away from him, so she could see the a small road away from. She recognized it, good. So she wasn't lost. "And it's not an impossible goal. I managed to do it for four years, didn't I?" she said with a faint smirk.
She glanced up at the sky, what time was it? It couldn't be too much longer until dawn. An hour at most. She wasn't certain though, she had been on her walks; she always lost track of time on her walks. She gave a sigh, relaxing her struggles and finally looked him in the eyes. She had tried to brace herself, but nothing could have prepared herself for the rush of nostalgia. It was so easy for her to simply melt into his eyes, the familiarity of it all. But she held her ground, she didn't let herself show it. She felt the wall that had collapsed around her when she saw him slowly rebuild. Ava knew how to adapt. "So, what are you going to do now? Hold me here 'till sunrise and have us both burn to a crisp?" she asked dryly, her eyes still disdain and disgust.

---------Jeremy was pleased to see her finally relax and stop stiffening up under his touch and fighting against him, however, when she looked up to his eyes finally they were cold and empty, all emotion locked away behind stone walls to where the only things which seeped through the cracks were her disgust and hate towards him. He felt, for a moment, the slightest hurt but quickly brushed it off in denial. He did not want to feel that and therefore he would not. The unwanted emotions of guilt and pain had no place in his life. ---------Her dry words were spoken with a touch of unhumerous sarcasm, something which was rarely to never found her four years prior, but the way she pushed him away made him want her all the more. He did not care for women who threw themselves at him. Ava never had. He helped her when she was in need and over years their relationship moved beyond platonic, but she never forced flirtatious compliments or continuously worked to try and win him over. Even if it was in a more violent and defiant fashion now than it was then, Ava was nothing like any other woman he had ever met and unlike any women he ever would. She was a unique treasure. ---------Wait until sunrise and both die in the light of that accused vampire's bane? It was hardly his intention to die in such a pointless manner. With his free hand he gently tilted her chin up to face him. "I have a better idea." He leaned in to where there was only a inch between them. "I let you go," he whispered before pressing his lips to hers in a kiss and releasing her other arm. He was gentle and non-demanding, leaving her the choice of accepting him or pushing him away.

Ava felt his lips on hers, and for one heartbeat-just one heartbeat. She was back four years ago, totally and completely in love. It was like time had stopped, just for a little while. She melted right into the kiss, as if she had fallen right back in time when the only wish she had was to stay in his arms forever. When he let her other hand go, she didn't run, but that was when the little voice inside her head screamed NO! and she broke away, pushing him away softly and backing away so there were at least a few feet of distance between the two vampires.
Her expression was no longer of hate and disgust in her eyes, but disbelief. It was like they were fighting over the brick wall she had around her. Up and down, she'd build it up and he'd push it back down, she'd rebuild it just before he'd start to break it down again. She noticed her heart begin to beat faster and faster. This was not going to make her give in. With a deep breath she noticed she was shaking, dammit, what was about it about him that made her like this? She had to clear her head. Run? Should she run? He'd just catch her again. And again. She looked back at him with wonder, what was he going to do now. She couldn't run, there was no where to hide, he was right. Trying to get away from him would be nearly impossible right now.
After a few moments of her frozen stare she slowly regained her composure, her gaze softening as she crossed her arms over her chest. She glared at him, trying to think of something-anything to say. But after that? Her lips were buzzing from the kiss, numb and cold. She opened her mouth to say something, but nothing came out. What could she say, she had no grounds to threaten him, nothing to blackmail him with, nothing she could do to get him off her back. She glanced behind her, once again trying to think if there was any possibility of running and actually being able to get away. What he said earlier-was he actually going to let her go? Like, just let her leave? She doubted it, but she took a few more steps backwards to see how far he'd actually let her go. Testing the invisible rein he had attached onto her to see how long it went.

---------She welcomed his affections for a moment, only for a moment, and when she moved away it took a great deal of effort on Jeremy's part to not grab her and pull her back to him. Her eyes questioned him, seeking affirmation as she slowly stepped back, the distance between them slowly increasing step by step. In her silence she was shaking. Her hate faded into confusion. Though she tried to hide it by crossing her arms defiantly, her face betrayed her. ---------For a moment he considered stopping her, but fought against it. He merely watched her, waiting for her to disappear once again. He felt assurance in the thought that they were both in the camp now. She was within his reach and even if it took time for her realize she was still his, he would wait. They had eternity, the curse and blessing of immortality. Not saying a word, he nodded in affirmation of her silent question of whether or not he was truly letting her go.

Ava blinked, he was genuinely letting her go. She let her arms fall to her sides. It was strange, to know that she knew she could leave now if she wanted... it almost made her want to stay. But, why would she? Like she had decided before, she really needed to just clear her head. Get her emotions in order before dealing with something like this. Here was her opportunity. So she slowly turned away, then bolted-heading straight for the schoolhouse. She ran and as she ran, she felt tears escaping from her eyes, whipping down her face with the wind. What a night.
